        Het Laboratorium voor Klinische Biologie van UZ Gent (gebouw P8) verwerkt in totaal zo"n 600 000 orders op jaarbasis, waarvan 2/3 van de orders via ordercommunicatie werd geplaatst en 1/3 nog manuele orderingave in het LIS vereist. Per weekdag ontvangt het lab ongeveer 6 500 recipiënten, grotendeels via de buizenpost, maar ook via interne en externe koeriers. Het core lab werd in 2008 geautomatiseerd voor wat betreft de pre-analytische fase (MPA, Roche) en transportsysteem naar scheikunde en immunologie apparatuur. Hematologie werd apart geautomatiseerd via een HST lijn (Sysmex). Doelstelling van deze opdracht is het huidige laboratorium verder automatiseren, alsook de efficiëntie te verhogen, met behoud van kwaliteit en snelheid van rapporteren (TAT).
